Shannon Hegy

Shannon is the Emmy-nominated anchor of WPRI Eyewitness News.  She graduated from Hofstra University in New York with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2007. That’s also where she met her husband Matt (the two were married in October 2012). In her career, Shannon has covered a number of major stories, including the June 2011 Springfield tornado, the Sandy Hook school shooting, the Boston Marathon bombings, the Red Sox 2015 World Series win, as well as Deflategate and the Patriots’ Super Bowl victories.

It was a story that affected her personally, however, that is the closest to Shannon’s heart. At just two months old, her son Carter came down with bacterial meningitis in September 2017. He spent nine weeks in the hospital bravely battling the potentially deadly infection. Shannon shared “Carter’s Story” with Eyewitness News viewers to spread awareness about bacterial meningitis and encourage other parents to trust their instinct.  Shannon is happy to report that Carter is now a healthy, happy little boy who shows no signs of slowing down. Shannon and her husband Matt welcomed their second son, Theo in 2019. If you see Shannon, her husband Matt and her their two sons out and about, please say “hi”. You can often find them at the beach, eating at their favorite restaurants (there are too many to name!), or on the golf course (the boys have their very own set of clubs).

In addition to The Izzy Foundation, Shannon is also involved with a number of local non-profits and events, including the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Meeting Street.
